How are we organised?

The meetings and activities of the church are open to whomever wishes to come, and we trust that all who do will receive a warm welcome, and be made to feel at home.

In the Bible, being part of a local church is always seen as a vital part of what it means to be a Christian.  Thus we encourage those who regularly meet with us, and who share our core beliefs and experience of God’s grace, to consider becoming members of the church.  If you would like to know more about membership, please ask for the church’s booklet on ‘membership’which deals with the who, why, how and what of church membership.

All members are equal and have a vital role in church life, as we serve and encourage one another, using the different gifts God has given us for the good of his people.  In line with the Biblical pattern, the spiritual care of the church is entrusted to a group of ‘elders’ who are responsible for teaching God’s Word.  In addition a group of ‘deacons’ are responsible for co-ordinating the administrative and practical aspects of church life (e.g. maintaining the property, accounts etc.)  The whole church ‘body’ (all the members) meets at least twice a year to make decisions concerning church life and activities, and to welcome new members.

As a local church we are a small part of God’s universal Church, the company of all believers across the world and through the ages.  In practice we have links and fellowship with many like-minded churches across the country.

We hold to the 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith and have a church constitution and membership roll.
